Artist: Michael Pestel

Michael Pestel attended college at UCSB, Hartwick College, Free University of Berlin,
University of Munich and the Otis Art Institute. He taught art history at the Otis Art Institute
from 1980-1984, sculpture at Crossroads School for the Arts and Sciences in Los
Angeles from 1985-1988, and has taught sculpture and media arts in the Visual and
Media Arts programs at Chatham College since 1988. From 1990-2003 he chaired the
Visual Arts program at Chatham College and has collaborated widely with students and
faculty in the Schools of Art, Architecture and Music at Carnegie Mellon University.

Mr. Pestel has received numerous awards, commissions and grants for his work from,
among others, the NEA, Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, Heinz Foundation, Asian
Cultural Council, United Nations Fund, Anser Anser Foundation, Carnegie Mellon
University, American Institute of Architects, German Ministry of Culture, Mondriaan
Foundation, and Artpark.
