The Center for Experimental Lectures is an artist’s project that provides a platform for artists, theorists, and other cultural producers to engage with the public lecture as a format. The Center for Experimental Lectures commissions new lecture performances with the aim of providing occasions to focus on not only the content and structure of each unique lecture, but also the possibilities of the lecture as a creative platform. The Center was started in 2011 by artist Gordon Hall, and has since commissioned 26 new lectures, organizing events at institutions including Alderman Exhibitions (Chicago, IL), Recess (New York, NY), MoMA PS1 (New York, NY), and The Shandaken Project (Shandaken, NY). The Center for Experimental Lectures presented Seminars with Artists in conjunction with the 2014 Whitney Biennial. A selection of materials from the Center’s archives will be on view, including video documentation, posters, texts, and written transcripts. Gordon Hall will also present a lecture at CCA Tbilisi on 4 October, 2015.
