the way things are
Exhibition
Apr 17, 2008–Sep 13, 2008
Adrian Lohmüller’s multimedia installation, the way things are, part of the Audio in the Elevator program, is located in both the elevator and stairwell and examines systems of ‘digestion’ and how one’s habitual actions might be seen differently. In both spaces Lohmüller uses the metaphor of the human digestive system to comment on a variety of social and civic structures, or organisms. Lohmüller takes every opportunity to insert an artistic perspective into systems that are considered automatic, and are therefore overlooked. In this instance he addresses, through the act of cleaning, the absence of sanitary facilities in the urban environment.
