Projects
Art in General fulfills its mission through a variety of ways, including organizing and presenting exhibitions at the gallery and beyond, commissioning new art projects, hosting a national and international artist residency program, and conducting regular public programs. This website lists all archived programs of this kind since the formation of Art in General, and this section introduces you to the basics of each of these project initiatives.
Art in General’s New Commissions program is designed for artists living and working in New York City and its surrounding region. Art in General’s Artist Residency Program focuses on national and international artists. The Eastern European Residency Exchange, an extension of Art in General’s Artist Residency Program, is designed for artists based in New York City and for artists from the participating countries. Beyond Art in General encompasses exhibitions of contemporary art and special projects that are co-organized with other partnering institutions and displayed off-site the gallery.
There are other, long-standing and recurring exhibitions and public programs bringing the work of local, national and international artists to Art in General, such as the annual Video Marathon and the Audio in the Elevator program. These are also introduced in this section and the projects are archived in the website. After more than a decade running, the temporary exhibition program sited in a window niche in the building facade of Art in General is no longer programmed. However, all those art installations and exhibitions are archived in this website. Today, that window niche is a light box announcing the gallery exhibitions and calendar or programs.
Art in General’s dynamic contemporary arts program engages a diverse group of artists and audience through these projects and regular public programs and events.
