109exg600_4_lg%20copy_144_144Manly brings together artists from Beijing, Tel Aviv, Caracas, San Juan, Moscow, and New York to investigate the shifting portrayal of masculinity and the upheaval of gender stereotypes. Spanning media as diverse as photography, painting, sculpture, video, performance, and installation, the works in this show reveal the prevalence of drag kings and queens, codes of public men’s rooms, and the emergence of hyper-masculinity amongst other themes. A panel discussion moderated by curator Grady Turner was held on occasion of the exhibition and included artists Lyle Ashton Harris, Grace Quek and Sue Williams.
