L'Emprente du Desir (A Trace of Desire)

L’Emprente du Desir investigates the history and memory of Berber women. Created by Algerian-born artist Samta Ben Yahia, the work draws upon Algerian motifs and incorporates a moucharabieh, an Islamic architectural construction that is used to separate the interior world of women from the outside so that they cannot be seen. Audio and video recordings of women singing accompany the installation.
