019airg498_4_lg_144_144The Canyon That Took the Place of a Couch features sculptural landscapes created by Kim Yasuda using common domestic materials such as carpet, blankets, and fleece; an appropriated toilet accompanies the works adding a further layer of domesticity. Yasuda has remarked, “I am attempting to find ways to ‘domesticate’ the natural landscape—and conversely, elevate the domestic to the monumental scale of nature. The result is a hybrid landscape environment that has been re-scaled to situate itself within the interior of a gallery space or domestic setting.”
