Under the Water—Flowing

Additional participants Abby Robinson

020aairg499_4_lg_144_144Inspired by the aquatic life and of ponds and lakes, Tran Luong uses traditional Vietnamese dó paper, rope, 200 glass marbles, watercolor, and Chinese ink to recreate an environment that reflects the leitmotif of water. Luong has stated, “Water is inseparable from the Vietnamese people’s life. It is their source of living and at the same time a permanent danger. Growing up between the ages of five and twelve in the countryside, I didn’t really have any toys, so I’d spend hours sitting beside a river or looking at a small pool.”

020aairg499_3_lg_144_144In conjunction with this residency, Art in General publishes a brochure featuring an interview of the artist by Abby Robinson. It can be downloaded here for free.
