Othello Asphyxia

The Moscow-based AES Group deconstructs ideological devices found in political propaganda. For their residency they will create new photographs and a video for Art in General’s window space and other site-specific locations throughout the city. According to the artists, “Contemporary global media uses the beauty and perfection of the black body to attract the public, mostly white. In our version we’ll show Shakespeare’s story in “neo-colonial” discourse–Desdemona gets sexual pleasure from asphyxia.”
