Think Different
Influenced by the political history of Cuba, José A. Toirac, in collaboration with* Meira Marrero Díaz*, has created an archive of clippings from the Cuban media to explore the political and cultural iconography of Cuba. A series of ten paintings juxtapose notable images from Cuba’s political history with commercial advertisements, focusing specifically on images of Fidel Castro. Another work entitled Parables features 33 images of Castro that are arranged to parallel the life of Jesus Christ. The works in this exhibition are united by an interest in the formation of history as influenced by the mass media and memory.
