A Thousand and One Floors

A mix of fantasy and science fiction, A Thousand and One Floors is comprised of a succession of sound-scape vignettes punctuated by department store style announcements. Fictional floors such as The Pleasure Center, The Hall of Science, The Hall of Mirrors, Executive Dining room, and The Fountain of Youth are called out as the viewer rides the elevator. Created by Stephanie Rowden, this installation begins with the 7th floor and extends into the sky, suggesting an ever-expanding center that is a fusion of corporate headquarters, shopping malls and theme parks.
