Impossible, by Marcelline Delbecq, an audio installation selected by Anthony Marcellini.

It’s probably dark outside
But you can’t quite tell through the shades
You’ve just put your coat back on
Then looked at yourself in the mirror
The big one in the hall
Hung beside the bedroom door
That you’ve made sure is now locked
Because you’re already gone
The apartment is filled with a dim light
It’s completely silent
You’d better not look back
You walk to the corridor
And press the elevator button
Your leather gloves are a little sticky
But you can’t take them off yet
You press the button again
And look around
At the immaculate walls
Down to the immaculate carpet
But the elevator is not coming
It’s stuck on the ground floor
It should not be stuck on the ground floor
Because no one is supposed to be here
What if someone else were coming up?
But how could they know
You better leave now
Walk out of this building and head off into the night
But there is no other way out
And the elevator is not coming
You can’t use this narrow window leading onto a brick wall
So you turn around to go back into the apartment
There must be a fire escape
But the entrance door is locked from the inside
It’s impossible
It’s impossible
