Que Tenga Rejas de Bronce: Soleares (Let the Prison Bars be Bronze)

Structured in a grid that references prison bars, this installation is comprised of thousands of Alfileres, common stainless steel pins used by seamstresses. Created by Spanish-born artist Elena del Rivero, Que Tenga Rejas… explores the formation of cultural identity, particularly that which relates to issues of femininity and labor. The work is accompanied by an audio piece of Flamenco music.
