Alfredo Jaar: Born in Santiago de Chile in 1956, is an artist, architect, and filmmaker who lives and works in NYC. He creates installations, photographs, films, and community-based projects that explore issues around humanitarian crises and the relationship between the First and Third Worlds. Probing the contemporary over-saturation of media images and the limitations of art in representing atrocities, Jaar draws attention to global power and exploitation. Jaar became a Guggenheim Fellow in 1985 and a MacArthur Fellow in 2000. His work can be found at The Museum of Modern Art and Guggenheim Museum, New York, the MCA in Chicago, MOCA and LACMA in Los Angeles, the Tate in London, the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, the Centro Reina Sofia in Madrid, the Moderna Museet in Stockholm, and other institutions and private collections worldwide.
